Here’s more….

The Type R-GT was developed as a dedicated race machine which boasts not only outstanding aerodynamic performance, but styling design that expresses the ultimate performance of the vehilce. Under hood, the New Civic is equipped with a dedicated 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged inline 4-cylinder racing engine HRC — the perfect setup for the top racetrack!

Developed on the bones of the road-legal Civic Type-R, the Type R-GT will continue the legacy of the Type R as the ultimate in performance.

Leaked images show aerodynamic specifications closer to what SUPER GT fans will see as this new Civic gets set for its racing debut in the 2024 season. Taking part in the two-day test in Okayama will also be updated versions of the Toyota GR Supra and Nissan Z GT500 vehicles.

The Honda Racing Corp. has set the stage, with the Civic Type R-GT poised for what is considered the most prestigious auto racing series in Japan. Expectations are high, as they rightly should be, and the 2024 season will be well worth the wait!

About the race!

The Super GT series, as the name makes clear, is a grand touring car championship established in 1993 and renamed to its current name in 2005. Considered the highest level of car racing in Japan, the race is broken down in two classes, the GT300 and the GT500. The Type R-GT is expected to replace the NSX-GT Type S, winner of the 2020 championship.

The race debut for the Type R-GT is on schedule for the 2024 season of the Super GT Series, which should result in the official track launch taking place by next April. There is another round slated for August at the Fuji Speedway and later in that month at the Suzuka Circuit. The final race of the season will take place in early November at the Mobility Resort Motegi.

Honda Racing Corp. is thrilled for the R-GT to start its first track testing: “We are very pleased to be able to start the first track testing of the Civic Type R-GT, which is a race machine incorporating the aerodynamics, engine and other technologies, and the expertise that HRC has amassed by taking on challenges in a number of races inside and outside of Japan,” Koji Watanabe, HRC presidnen, said. “Starting with the 2024 season, we will be competing in the GT500 class of SUPER GT, one of the most prestigious auto racing series in Japan.”

With a drive toward victory, and a commitment to excellence, the track testing for the Civic Type R-GT is just another example of the dedication and the forward-thinking philosophy at Honda. A dedicated racing machine is found here as well as a perfectly equipped vehicle for the task at hand. On your mark, get set — stay tuned for this great race!
