The preview!
Considered the most capable and off-road focused Honda SUV yet, this second-generation Passport has much to boast about! Beginning with specially engineered 18-inch wheels on the TrailSport, 31-inch all-terrain tires and bright orange heavy-duty front recovery points, this vehicle even LOOKS off-road ready. Even its wheels are designed with survival and aesthetics in mind. In addition, a substantially shorter front overhang yields an improved approach angle. An aluminum front scuff plate helps protect the front fascia, while an extensive selection of cargo accessories caters to overlanding enthusiasts, including a MOLLE storage system integrated into the rear cargo area.
A redesigned rear overall is also offered here, with angled exhaust tips that are tucked to the side. The biggest underbody change is the addition of heavy-duty skid plates, one in front over the oil pan, power takeoff and transmission, and another in the rear protecting the fuel tank.
Design of the interior is not yet unveiled, but we know this vehicle is all things capable!
In the area of technology, the Passport also excels, with the model featuring an available new TrailWatch system with four camera views — front, rear, side and 360-degree. This system also has a new tire path and vehicle body guidelines shown in the center display which helps drivers navigate obstacles outside their natural line of sight due to slope or proximity, such as blind crests, deep rut and the trail’s edge. Additional tire path and vehicle body guidelines are displayed on the center screen, assisting drivers when negotiating obstacles like blind crests, deep ruts and trail edges.
For the casual off-roader or the enthusiasts, the Passport is ideal. Other helpful tools include the tire-path predictions on the camera, which is found to be extremely useful. In addition, the pathways also highlight the outer edge of the vehicle, which assists in avoiding sidewall scares and brush stripping.
In considering its handling, the Passport is equally impressive in that allows left-foot braking with a considerable amount of brake dragging.
To also carry the off-road look and feel forward, Honda engineers went to all new levels in this next-gen Passport, creating the broadest line of Honda Genuine Accessories ever for a new model launch. Those include strong and durable rock sliders that can handle the weight of the vehicle, an aluminum front scuff plate to protect the front fascia from damage and an extensive new line of available cargo accessories with an overloading focus.
Under hood, the Passport TrailSport gets its power from a new, stronger DOH 3.5-liter V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda’s i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system comes standard, with Honda standing behind their claim that these features serve to make the TrailSport the most adventure-ready SUV Honda has ever produced! While overall power numbers are not yet made available, by comparison, in the 2025 Honda Pilot, this engine makes 285 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, so similar output is expected here. In addition, a capable and smooth engine is expected, one that is able to deliver up and over just about any obstacle.
The 2026 TrailSport, expected to carry a starting price tag of about $45,000, with higher trims and additional options bringing that overall cost up to $51,000, has a more rigid body that is 72 percent stiffer laterally across the front of the truck and 50 percent stiffer torsionally across the rear compared to the outgoing model. Honda gives the TrailSport a trim-specific suspension tune, with forged steel suspension arms and cast-iron knuckles that should be more durable in off-road situations.
With a rugged design and sheer capability when you need to be off-road ready, the Passport and Passport Trail Sport are fine choices. Planned to be unveiled later this fall and boasting new technology and enhanced performance, these models excel! Going off path? Honda has you covered! Reserve yours today!
