Look familiar?!!
The electrified future is here, and it’s in the form of the hybrid-electric Honda Prelude Concept, following the sporty couple from decades ago and rooted in distinctive character. So exciting, this concept made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show just weeks after it was revealed at the Japan Mobility Show. It is representative of Honda’s tried-and-true commitment to offering exhilarating products moving forward.
“Honda hybrid-electric models have been doing a great job of furthering our electrification strategy and now represent one-quarter of Honda sales in 2023,” Gary Robinson, Honda’s VP of Auto Planning and Strategy in America, said. “Displaying the hybrid Prelude Concept demonstrates our electrification strategy in a sporty and dynamic package.”
First brought forth in November, 1978, this Prelude and its nameplate has been a fan favorite for those enthusiasts who desire sporty looks and all-out performance. It has been designed to advance what is a pure joy of driving into an exciting electrified future.
With its recent debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Prelude Concept, starting at about $31,000, is just one new example of Honda’s strong commitment to offering exhilarating products moving into a clear push of an electrified future.
This sleek, two-door coupe, which follows the first generation Prelude 45 years ago, will be displayed through Nov. 26 at the LA Auto Show. It will join the 2024 Honda Prologue, the first all-electric Honda SUV, as well as the new Honda Motocompact e-scooter.
This concept, with its sleek styling, aligns with Honda’s global goal to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. In the not-too-far future, Honda plans to make battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles represent the totality of its vehicle sales by 2040.
While the future vision is clear, when it comes to the Prelude and its possibility for production, Honda has not revealed details, although it may just arrive for the 2026 model year. But they do appear to be testing the waters to determine the concept’s response here in America.
What we do know!
We do know for fairly certain that the Prelude Concept will share components in the area of powertrain and mechanical details with the Civic and Accord models. It is also promised to be a fun driving experience.
This Prelude will be a brand new addition to the Honda lineup, and will fill the void of the discontinued coupe versions of the Civic and Accord. It will compete with similarly affordable sports cars like the Toyota GR86 and the Mazda MX-5 Miata.
It features a hybrid powertrain, which may mean it will be powered by a version of the hybrid system already found in Honda models like the CR-V and upcoming Civic hybrid, planned for 2025.
More power is both expected and hoped for in comparison to the Accord, which is known to produce 204 hp from its hybrid setup that also incorporates a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.
Front-wheel-drive is likely standard, similar to the Preludes of the past, although all-wheel-drive may still be a possibility.
Still left to determine is what this Prelude will look like inside, as well as its technology within. Safety and Driver-Assistance features are also forthcoming, as is Warranty and Maintenance Coverage info!
This concept and its pursuit of pure driving pleasure boasts distinctive individuality and is a clear example of Honda’s determination and commitment to create products that make driving a purely enjoyable experience! Look familiar?! See what the electrified future has in store!
