Change is in the air!
Heading into 2025, the largest change when it comes to the Civic’s mid-fresh freshening is the addition of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 200 horsepower that shares a lot with the hybrid available in the Accord and CR-V. It takes the place of the outgoing 180-hp, 1.5-liter turbocharged option and results in a seamless ride. The hybrid is presented in Econ(omy), Normal and Sport modes, with solid performance throughout each.
In the area of efficiency, the Civic Hybrid is expected to return 50 miles per gallon in the city, 47 on the highway and 49 combined. It is also presented with four levels of regenerative braking, switchable just by using paddles to the left and right of the steering wheel.
For all models, there are re-tuned springs and dampers, and more rigid front upper suspension mounts, front subframe mount and rear lower suspension mounts.
In the area of design, buyers will enjoy the 2025 Civic’s restyled grille and front fascia, which is joined by darker taillights and a blacked-out headlight reflector. With the Civic Hybrid Sport, there are more blacked-out bits and a body-color grille surround and front spoiler.
Inside, the Sport Touring Hybrid models boast a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is powered by Google Built-In and offers access to apps through the Play Store. It also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This user-friendly system featuring Honda’s latest infotainment package is presented for the first time in a Civic, and is way more desirable than the older 7-inch package found in lesser trim levels.
The rest of the cabin is a carry-over from the previous year, with a harmonious design through and through!
The new hybrid powertrain is available in both sedan and hatchback styles and is roomy enough inside to accommodate four adults and their luggage. The Honda Sensing safety package is standard across the Civic range, and is expected to be refined heading into the next model year, with Collision Mitigation tuned to better detect bicycles and motorcycles. It will also feature the offering of Adaptive Cruiser with smoother acceleration and deceleration and smoother Lane Keeping Assist.
Designed for every potential buyer, this vehicle is more affordable now than ever before and represents a refresh of the current-generation model. The four sedan trims are priced as follows and include the $1,095 destination fee: the LX is at $25,345; the Sport at $27,345; the Sport Hybrid at $29,845; and the Sport Hybrid Touring at $32,845. The latter two trims feature a 150-horsepower gas motor, while the top two hybrids make 200 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque. These are poised to go on sale sometime this month (June, 2024).
The top-trim Civics feature a 2.0-liter, inline-four cylinder engine paired with a two-motor hybrid, with the battery charging while the car drives. This hybrid offering speaks to all-out convenience, with the Civic Hybrid making its American debut in 2003 with a base price of $19,550, which would cost about $34,000 today. The new Sport Hybrid trim starts at $28,750.
Particularly beneficial and among the Civic hybrid’s key features is the “power vs charge” gauge in front of the driver, which replaced the tachometer. The way this gauge works is by telling the driver when the vehicle is charging the battery via regenerative braking, as well as how much fuel one is using when hitting the accelerator pedal.
These are among the many pros which clearly outweigh the cons, one of which is intrusive road noise and hum in the wheel wells, making this vehicle your next best choice. If a good engine, engaging road manners and a great design are to your liking, then the new Civic is the answer. Adding to a legacy of one of America’s favorite purchases, the new Civic is clearly the Alpha, and the leader of the pack! Reserve yours today!
